Field Report : The Plaza at Solana Progress
Construction is continuing on The Plaza at Solana. This week Lauren Fasic and Blane Potts visited the site to specifically locate the “Bosque” Trees on site which are 13 Cedar Elms grown in a nursery in North Texas nearby. The trees were selected and tagged in 2019 for the grove and the team designed specifically to accommodate their near 70” rootballs. The native trees are large enough to provide a shady refuge on Day 1 of the opening. The team was grateful to work with a Client who appreciated the value of locating and purchasing the trees for the project before documentation was completed.
The pavilions will provide dappled shade similar to that of a tree canopy. In the coming weeks 3Form panels mimicking colors found in nearby native prairies will be installed above the structure, illuminating the ground with colorful shadows. The color will also be a homage to the original architecture by Ricardo Legoretta. Architectural Consultant: Mitchell Garman Architects
After assessment on site, the team assigned each specific tree a location in The Bosque, so that the contractor can plant with ease. The canopy size, exact rootball size and fullness were determining factors in the tree’s final placement in the ground.
